Features
Subscription Management
How Subscription Management works — customer actions, retention offers, and platform capabilities.
Subscription Management is an optional Cadence feature that lets your existing subscribers manage their subscriptions through ConvertCart — skip deliveries, pause, swap products, change frequency, and cancel with retention offers.
Availability
Subscription Management is not enabled by default. The Cadence team enables it per store based on your subscription platform and business needs. Contact Cadence support or discuss during your enablement call.
Requirements:
- A subscription platform connected (Recharge, Skio, Loop, or Shopify Subscriptions)
- Subscription Management feature flag enabled by the Cadence team
- For Recharge: may require reconnecting with expanded OAuth permissions
What customers can do
When Subscription Management is enabled, subscribers access a management interface through ConvertCart. Available actions depend on your connected subscription platform:
| Action | Description | Platform support |
|---|---|---|
| Change delivery date | Move the next delivery to a different date | All platforms |
| Change frequency | Switch delivery interval (e.g., every 30 → every 60 days) | All platforms |
| Skip delivery | Skip the next scheduled delivery | All platforms |
| Pause subscription | Temporarily pause all deliveries | All platforms |
| Swap product | Replace the subscribed product with another | Skio, Loop, Shopify Subscriptions |
| Add product | Add a line item to the subscription | Skio, Loop, Shopify Subscriptions |
| Remove product | Remove a line item from the subscription | Skio, Loop, Shopify Subscriptions |
| Cancel | Cancel the subscription (with retention offers) | All platforms |
Note: Recharge does not support adding or removing subscription line items through Cadence.
Configuring allowed actions
Go to Subscriptions → Settings in the Cadence app to control which actions customers can take:
- Toggle each action on or off
- Disabled actions are hidden from the customer management interface
Enable only the actions you’re comfortable offering. More flexibility reduces cancellations but requires operational readiness.
Retention offers on cancel
When a customer attempts to cancel, you can present retention offers to save the subscription:
| Offer type | Description |
|---|---|
| Discount | Percentage off for a set number of deliveries |
| Frequency change | Suggest a less frequent delivery schedule |
| Skip | Offer to skip the next delivery instead of canceling |
| Pause | Offer to pause instead of canceling |
| Product swap | Suggest swapping to a different product |
Configure which offers appear and their values in Subscriptions → Settings → Retention offers.
Best practice: Start with a skip or pause offer before offering discounts. Discount-based retention can train customers to cancel in order to receive deals.
How customers access management
Subscribers reach the management interface through:
- A manage subscription link in subscription-related emails (via your marketing platform flows)
- Direct ConvertCart URLs generated for subscription management predictions
- Links you include in your own customer communications
The management interface uses your ConvertCart branding settings for a consistent experience.
Subscription analytics
When Subscription Management is enabled, additional analytics appear in the Dashboard and under Subscriptions in the sidebar:
- Subscription upsell conversions
- Management action usage (skips, pauses, swaps, cancellations)
- Retention offer acceptance rates
- Subscription revenue trends
Recharge reconnection
If Subscription Management is enabled after you initially connected Recharge, you may need to disconnect and reconnect Recharge. The initial connection uses read-only permissions; management requires write access to subscriptions.
You’ll see a prompt in the Cadence app if reconnection is needed.
